How to Start Planning for a Tiny Home
Starting a tiny house project can be both exciting and challenging. There’s lots of questions that pop up – how much will it cost? What sort of design am I looking for? Can it be DIY? Here’s a couple of pointers that will help you along the way:
- Who/What/When? Before you pick a tiny house plan, you need to consider the main use. Who is primarily going to use it? Your in-laws? Your kids? And how and when are they using it? Is it going to be used by various guests in the summer? Or is it for full time use by retirees? Thinking of how the house will get used can clarify what sort of tiny home plan you want to start with.
- Get Inspired. Look at different tiny house plans to get inspired. Think about not only what design looks good on its own, but which will fit in with the surroundings – neighboring houses and structures as well as trees and landscape.
- Budget Wisely. Spend time carefully crafting a budget.
